Description

Oh man was this a fun one lol. It was a lot of hard work to get this to look as good as it does! Not to mention TIME! I really do love how it came out though and I'm extremely happy with it.

So it may look slightly different than it would on the actual character but, this garment is going on a human body, the character is definitely not human lol so I had to make some proportional changes obviously.

Materials:
For the main body that's pastel green, I used a suiting fabric. (I'm not quite sure the particular kind of suiting though) It was actually really nice to work with. I've worked with suiting only one other time and that was Bottomweight Suiting and it was pretty awful, it frayed like crazy. This stuff though was really nice and didn't fray nearly as much.

I chose it mainly for the drape factor since the garment was supposed to be just a draped piece of cloth wrapped around the character, I wanted the fabric to be flowy and drapey to create those nice folds.

For the bag and the thing the tail is sewn onto, I used a general canvas fabric. I'm pretty sure it's a garment canvas though. It was nice to work with , don't really have much else to say about the fabric with that lol

And for the light blue tabs I just used regular cotton.

Oh and the tail was made with anti-pill fleece.

Details:
My main goal was to get this to drape similar to the character so what I actually did on the sides, is I made a little pin-tuck to sort of permanently keep the folds that happen there naturally in place so they stay looking nice.

The entirety of the body is basically just one giant infinity scarf essentially and it was so confusing at first to figure out how the heck it worked lol. The back didn't create as much of a natural drape as I would have liked but I'm pretty sure it's due to the fabric trying to correct the way it's laying while resisting the curve at the same time which was kind of frustrating.

The bag was actually really easy. As you can see in the photo of the bag open, I put belt loops on the inside so I could have a clasp for the strap so it wasn't permanently stuck on the garment. The belt loops are also there to hold the clasp on the inside of the bag so they stay hidden. I also made sure to make the bag big enough to hold items one would usually carry with them around a convention hotel (wallet, small camera, phone...)

I'm not sure if you can see but the end of the tail has a section that is grey instead of white. What we did with that is diluted india ink in water to get that light gray color and then dipped the end of the tail inside to get that kind of natural gradient.

So yeah, I hope you like it! (There's way more detail happening in this that is actually really difficult to explain so if you have any questions about it, feel free to ask me!)

I still have this in my closet and I plan on wearing it to Animazement again this year. Especially since the director of Space Dandy, Cowboy Bebop, and Samurai Champloo will be there. I have to get a picture of him while wearing this! I'm the one who commissioned it. This is a new account btw so yeah, lol. Also depending on how busy you are, I may have another commission for you.
